A Mother’s Day Out — Here’s Your Gourmet Game Plan

What’s the best thing we can get for Mum this Mother’s Day? The answer is simple (and appropriately sappy): time together. Your shared presence is the present, and the bow on top is fun conversation and memories made over fantastic food. From sunrise to sunset, here’s your plan for a full day of delicious bonding.

Your guide to eating your way through Mother’s Day together:

  • Start the day with a leisurely lunch or brunch.
  • Surprise Mum with a teatime treat!
  • Seal the deal with a sumptuous dinner.

Morning and Midday Moments

A bounteous brunch or a laid-back lunch

Kick off the day with a stylish, unfussy brunch at The Masses, where Mum dines free when you book for four adults on 11 May 2025 ($68.80++ per person). This casual bistro serves up feel-good Franco-Asian fare, augmenting familiar flavours with creative finesse. The line-up includes playful yet polished options like the Caviar or Roe, a moreish caviar-topped sour cream and egg yolk dip accompanied by house-made potato chips; and the flavour-packed Hay Smoked Hamachi Crudo accented with citrus.

Over on sunny Sentosa, Bedrock Origin stages relaxed commemoration on 11 May 2025 with their Mother’s Day Bottomless Brunch ($78++ per person). Unwind with Mum in this charming coastal escape over a generous selection of starters; signature surf-and-turf plates — like a Kombu Cured Tomahawk, Grilled Tiger Prawns and Chef’s Selection of Seafood; sides; and sweets. On top of the free-flow feast, Mum gets a complimentary bottle of Riondo Sparkling Rosé as long as the table seats a mother-child pair.

Your choice for a classy noontime celebration is a three-course affair at Bedrock Bar & Grill. A specially curated set lunch ($88++ per person) titled For Mum, With Love, plus a complimentary pour of Chevalier Blanc de Blanc, awaits at the award-winning steakhouse from 8 to 14 May 2025. Start with the Beetroot Cured Salmon, layered in vibrant flavour with blackberries, pickled radish, and a zesty citrus dressing. Choose between two compelling options for mains: succulent Australian Wagyu MBS 8/9 paired with portobello pesto, parsnip purée, and red wine jus; or the delicately balanced Miso Ginger Cod Fish served with Ikana mussel, green peas, and fried leek. Dessert rounds off the meal on a sweet high.

Afternoon Break

A treat for teatime or takeaway

You’ll have to pre-order (at least a day in advance) to make this one work, but what distinguishes shock (bad) from surprise (good) is planning. The next stop on your itinerary is BakeDept at Baker X, for the well-timed delight of an artisanal ice cream cake ($58 for 500g). After all, what’s a celebration without cake? Whether decorated with a heart-shaped wreath of berries and cream; rich red roses; or a customised message, each of the four varieties available — durian, earl grey, strawberry, chocolate — make for a sure-to-please showpiece. And you can’t ever go wrong with flowers for Mum: in collaboration with The Flower Tale, BakeDept is offering an exclusive cake-and-bouquet bundle (from $115). Pre-orders run from 2 to 10 May 2025.

Evening Indulgence

A grand finale dinner

Give Mum the royal treatment at The Black Pearl with a six-course Cantonese fine-dining menu ($128++ per person), available the entire month of May. Set against sweeping rooftop views, the experience of imperial luxury begins with The Black Pearl’s Trio Appetiser Platter, comprising Siew Mai topped with Baby Abalone, Black Truffle Crystal Dumplings, and a dish of Aged Black Vinegar Jellyfish Head with Black and White Fungus. Next comes a warming, sumptuous soup starring shark’s fin, wonton, and sapid superior broth. Then comes red grouper in a flavoursome black garlic sauce, BBQ Premium Iberico Char Siew, Longevity Noodles Soup with Seafood — well wishes for Mum! — and, of course, dessert.

Mum deserves a whole lot of decadence, and that’s dinner done right at Fat Cow. The award-winning fine Japanese restaurant curates a five-course Mother’s Day Dinner ($178++ per person) featuring the finest cuts of premium Japanese beef, available from 9 to 15 May 2025. The Sukiyaki Kyoto A4 Wagyu course is a highlight — a masterfully prepared array of ribeye, oyster blade, chuck tail flap and knuckle main muscle. Each bite is melt-in-your-mouth tender, complemented beautifully by the brightness of sudachi, a refreshing tomato broth, and silky double-boiled egg yolk sauce.

For a soulful finish to a great day out, head to Birds Of A Feather to tuck into Mum’s 5 Hiang (Ngoh Hiang) with Sichuan Tian Mian Sauce ($15++ à la carte), offered exclusively from 9 to 11 May 2025 to celebrate Mother’s Day. Inspired by a Lunar New Year speciality of Chef Eugene’s mother, the dish is rich with flavourful nostalgia. A umami-packed mix of minced pork, prawns, shiitake mushrooms, carrots and more is wrapped in beancurd skin, then deep-fried to golden crisp. Served with these juicy golden bites is a Sichuan Tian Mian sauce, fragrant with house-made chilli oil, spiced soy sauce, sesame seeds and chopped toasted peanuts. Savour this alongside an array of small and large plates or as a delicious supplement to sharing set menus. And a toast to Mum after wouldn’t be amiss — clink glasses of bubbly, wine, or cocktails at Birds Of A Feather’s bar.

We hope the memories linger long after the plates are cleared. Happy Mother’s Day!
