DENISE’S NOTES
This was for a pretty fun article on “burning questions from diners”. Chef Hatch answered over text*, and I gleaned meaning and edited.
*If I may add: in a single mildly confusing chunk. This is not me complaining! I was happy just to have received a response.
1. WHAT IS THE MOST ABSURD REQUEST YOU’VE RECEIVED FROM A CUSTOMER? DID YOU FULFILL IT? WHAT DID YOU DO?
THE UNEDITED RESPONSE
It’s not unusual anymore if customers ask taking pictures, but DO NOT ASK ME ANY porsing or smiling any hand gesture,
It’s not unusual if customers ask for pictures of me or with me. But I don’t like it when they request specific poses, hand gestures, or for me to smile more!
I’m happy to take pictures but I don’t like it when that happens.
2. WE HAVE OFTEN HEARD THAT SINGAPOREANS ARE SOME OF THE MOST ENTITLED CUSTOMERS TO SERVE. DO YOU THINK THIS IS TRUE? IF NOT, WHICH GROUP WOULD YOU SAY IS?
THE UNEDITED RESPONSE
Lovely serve to Singaporean Customers
During eating talk about other restaurants or chefs . And how come start to compare
With others on time and shout….
Some kids watching movies or playing game on dinning …
Worth are even parents do playing puzzle games during eating …..
When Pokémon Go was popular/ started
I thought customers taking our pictures…
Actually they are catching Pokémon at our restaurant…
It’s lovely to serve Singaporean customers. But we’ve seen instances of inappropriate etiquette.
While dining with us, some customers talk about other restaurants or chefs. That’s fine, but then the conversation turns to comparing their experiences in these restaurants with Hashida, right in front of us.
We’ve had children watch movies or play games while eating. Worse still are the parents who do the same and play puzzle games during the meal.
And during the Pokémon GO craze, when I saw customers using their phones, I thought they were taking our pictures. They were actually just catching Pokémon at our restaurant.
3. WHAT’S THE ONE THING PEOPLE ASK FOR, DO OR SAY IN RESTAURANTS (YOURS OR OTHERS) THAT MAKES YOU WINCE?
THE UNEDITED RESPONSE
Attitude to my staff
attitude to chef is very nice
But attitude to service staff is talk like slave.
Bad attitude towards the service staff, especially when they’re very nice to the chefs, but talk to the staff like they’re servants.
4. WHAT DO YOU WISH DINERS KNEW ABOUT YOUR WORK, OR A PARTICULAR ASPECT OF YOUR WORK? WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST GRIPES ABOUT CUSTOMERS?
THE UNEDITED RESPONSE
Some time they talk to us not nice …
Talk about service, talk about other customers beside table or seats ….
Some times too complain.
[Redacted]
Sometimes customers can be a bit too harsh when commenting on service, or about other guests beside them. Whether you’re a server or a guest, everyone appreciates respect and courtesy.
